Ministry of Justice and Other Two Departments Issued a Notice for National Youth Legal Knowledge Contest

    BEIJING, June 23 – This year is a critical year for the fifth five-year plan of legal popularization. In order to better implement this plan, to promote legal education among youths, the major targets of legal publicity, to strengthen the popularization of laws and regulations closely related to the juvenile such as Law on the Protection of Minors and Law on Prevention of Juvenile Delinquency so as to enhance their legal awareness and quality, recently, Ministry of Justice, China Communist Youth League and National Popularization of Legal Knowledge Office jointly issued a notice to carry out a nation-wide legal knowledge contest for youths.  
    According to an official in charge of this event, the national contest is themed as “study, abide by and apply laws to make our country more beautiful.” It consists of a live TV contest and the 6th National Online Legal Knowledge Contest for Youths.
  It is reported that the live TV contest will take the form of team competition with 3 members for each team, containing at least one female. In line with the reference tests released by the organizing committee, provinces,autonomous regions and municipalities directly under the jurisdiction of the Central Government will organize varied contests for students from colleges, primary and secondary schools, as well as young people from government agencies, institutes, enterprises, rural areas and communities., Based on these contests, a team should be selected to represent the province, autonomous region or municipality in the national TV contest. Reference tests and keys as well as detailed competition rules will be provided by the organizing committee to local areas free of charge before the end of July; Before the end of October, Provinces should finalize their team members for the national contest and report them to the organizing committee before the end of October; and the live national TV contest will take place in Beijing in November,.
The 6th National Online Legal Knowledge Contest for Youths will take the form of online tests. Contestants may log on relevant websites by real names and submit the answers in due time The winners will be selected by the organizing committee based on the scores of the tests.
    There are monthly and yearly contests for the competition, and the results of the online tests should be taken as a reference inselecting team members for the national TV contest. The 6th National Online Legal Knowledge Contest for Youths will take place between August and November 2009.     The notice pointed out that  the  legal knowledge contest should be regarded as an essential part of the implementation of the fifth five-year plan of legal popularization. The organizing committee of the national youth legal knowledge contest should be co-established by Ministry of Justice, China Communist Youth League and National Popularization of Legal Knowledge Office and an office should be set up. .Corresponding organizing agencies should be established in local areas and responsibilities should be clarified so as to ensuresmooth progress of this activity. Excellent Organization Awards will be granted by  Ministry of Justice, China Communist Youth League and National Popularization of Legal Knowledge Office  to honor outstanding agencies.
